| I have now been in Ecuador for 9 months. I can“t believe how fast time has flown. I am here only 4 more weeks. I am starting to prepare to say goodbye to people who have supported me, cared for me, loved me and have become great friends. Yet at the same time I look forward to seeing my family and friends again and go to my church again. | | |
| I have been here in Ecuador for over 6 months. I am loving it. I spend my time visiting people in their homes, working with kids, visiting the sick and praying for them, and helping the church leaders in events. | | |
| WOW... they have updated things in xangaland since I have been on here last.
School is going well. The students are getting ansy as the year goes on, but I guess the teachers do too. Itcan be frustrating at times, but there are the days when you get the pictures and notes from students, as well as the hugs and smiles.
Plans for Ecuador are coming along. I am getting excited about the adventure God has in store for me.

| Hey everyone, It has been quite a while since I have updated on here, and a lot has happened since then. Ecuador- I have found out that I have been accepted to go to Ecuador for a year as a missionary. I am really excited and looking forward to it. I am not sure yet where I will be living and all the details about what I will be doing. Christmas is here!!! My parents are here for Christmas break. And it is nice to spend time with my family. I was also in the Christmas musical at church. I have had a busy couple of months and I am happy to have a break before getting back into things. | | |
| Sorry this is a long story, but it is worth reading...
So today I came home from school, just like any other day. And just like any other day Jinx, my cat, ran to the back door and meowed at me to ask if she could go outside. Just like any other day I let her out while I ate my dinner. Then I went and was about to use my computer, when I heard her paws galloping across the tile floor and I heard her side into a chair or two. I called her name, but didn't see her, so I figured that she had gotten scared by something outside. Next thing I know I see her head towards the stairs and I see something fuzzy dangling by it's tail from Jinx's mouth. The next thing I realize is that it is a chipmunk. I stand up trying to think about how to save the chipmunk, get it out of my house and try to handle an excited cat (the first live thing that she has caught that is bigger than a fly). Then Jinx starts to taken the creature up stairs and I was thinking about the places she would take this animal. The first place that came to mind was my bedroom. Then I started to think what my roommates would say if they found out that a chipmunk ran and tried to hide under their bed and Jinx had taken it up there. By this point I was on the landing before the stairs and wondering if I could grab Jinx and carry her, carrying the chipmunk and get them both outside when, the chipmunk escapes from the cats teeth and it runs across my foot. I jump and screech. (This was probably the look on my face.) For the first time in my life I think I understood what most girls feel like when a creature is running frantically around the room and your first thought is to find a chair to stand on and scream. But I didn't do that because the chipmunk then ran up stairs and I was hoping it wasn't going to end up in one of our rooms. When Jinx cornered it and I was uncertain of what to do. Jinx chased the animal back down our stairs and it ran under the easy chair. Jinx started pacing around the chair. I ran upstairs and shut all of our doors upstairs. Then I wasn't sure what to do next. I had a frightened little chipmunk under my easy chair and a cat who desperately wanted her toy back circling around and around the chair. Finally, I decided to move the chair a bit to see if it would stay under the chair and I could coax it to a place where it could find an escape route. But instead it ran out from under there and ran towards the couch and nearly went behind it and then ran to the other side of the living room and ran behind a shelf (it is made out of those metal pieces that you can fit together in box shapes...) and hid behind our games. Jinx stood right next to where it had run behind the boxes and started pacing and looking at me, pleading for help. I think slowly started to move the puzzles and games out of the way. Then I thought about how the chipmunk was really close to the back door at this point and if I got Jinx out of the way then maybe the chipmunk would come out and I could find a way to guide its way back outside. So I picked up an unhappy cat and shut her in the laundry room. Then I got out a board ready to use it to block the chipmunk's route so that it would go towards the back door. But instead of going towards the back door the chipmunk ran the opposite direction right towards the laundry room door. Then it started to run under the bathroom door and then quickly changed it's mind and ran into the laundry room. I heard Jinx run around a bit and then ... silence. I kept wondering if the chipmunk had made it to 'safety' under the dryer or hate met it's untimely demise in the paws of a cat. Finally, about 45 min later, when Joy came home, we decided to build a barricade around the laundry room with a pathway leading to the garage door and we opened the garage door then slowly opened the laundry room door. Hoping that Jinx would come out and that the chipmunk then would have a chance to make a run for it out through the garage. Well, we let Jinx out. I looked in the laundry room, there was no sign of the chipmunk. I banged the dryer and washer hoping to scare out the frightened animal, but no sign of it. Jinx was standing in the other room just watching us. I watched Jinx to see if she would smell out where the chipmunk had gone, but she hasn't been much help. We have now blocked off the kitchen and dinning room so that if the chipmunk had escaped from the laundry room before I had let Jinx out, it wouldn't be running free in my house. So, this has been the adventure of my day.
